LUPO ITALIANO

This breed originated in 1966 from a cross of Wolf / German Shepherd. One of the last wild wolves from the Apines of high Lazio was used for this. The ETLI (Italian Wolf Protection Agency) provides the breeding and breeding basis of this breed under the protection of the state. This is for reasons of genetic preservation. It is forbidden to keep or breed these wolfdogs outside this body.

These wolfdogs are lent free of charge to agencies, persons or associations that commit themselves to train them and use them for purposes of public utility such as rescue operations, tracing missing persons, tracing drugs and explosives, etc… It is particularly well suited for rescue operations in the mountains, during avalanches and disasters, with great resistance to weather conditions, hunger and thirst. Their good sense of smell in detecting persons or injured animals makes them of great use to forest and park rangers and gamekeepers. They are also used for all police work, in farming and herding, against theft and predators, taking advantage of their strong sense of territory.

Like other wolfdogs, he obeys by conviction, and not like the dog by servility. The height at the withers is 60 to 70 cm in males, 58 cm to 65 cm in females.
